Tefillin
“Place these words of Mine upon your heart and upon your soul; bind them for a sign upon your arm and let them be tefillin between your eyes.” – from the Shema. With quill, ink, and parchment, the sofer (scribe) carefully writes this and other holy passages from the Shema to be placed in the tefillin boxes. On weekday mornings and nights Jews wrap its leather straps and boxes around hand, arm, and head, as they rededicate themselves – physically (hand), emotionally (arm leading to the heart), and intellectually (head) – to their faith, love, and will of the Almighty.
